WSMC Oil Spill Information Seminar, October 25, 2018

The Washington State Maritime Cooperative’s (WSMC) Oil Spill Information Seminar will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM at the Doubletree Guest Suites, Seattle Airport/Southcenter, 16500 Southcenter Parkway, Seattle WA 98188,

The Seminar Objective is to provide an opportunity for attendees to learn about and to discuss: WSMC Members’ advantages, WSMC spill response capabilities, spill prevention measures and developments in spill response, contingency planning, and safety policies and rules/regulations.  The seminar will also provide an opportunity for local and national stakeholders to exchange ideas and information in order to facilitate environmentally safer maritime commerce in the region.

We expect over one hundred people to attend our seminar, including members of the US Coast Guard, Washington Department of Ecology, oil spill response contractors, consultants and vendors, as well as members of WSMC. This is a free seminar provided to inform WSMC members and others in the oil spill response community about oil spill response and WSMC member responsibilities.  Presentations will address both local and national issues that impact oil spill response in the Northwest and Puget Sound area.  The seminar will provide a great opportunity to network and meet with industry professionals.

Please let me know if you any questions, or if there is any information you would like addressed/discussed at the seminar.  You may contact me at or (425) 486-3501.

WSMC expands spill management team to include The Response Group (TRG) - Press Release

The Washington State Maritime Cooperative (WSMC) welcomes The Response Group (TRG) to its spill management team. In the event of a maritime spill, TRG will provide support for resource tracking and ordering, data management, GIS mapping and the use of their Incident Accident Plan (IAP) software to implement the Incident Command System.

Dan Nutt, President of the WSMC Board of Directors noted that “having the resources of TRG as part of the WSMC response team will significantly enhance our ability to respond to an oil spill. This is a great benefit to our WSMC members and demonstrates WSMC’s commitment to improving our response capabilities.”

The revised WSMC Plan no longer requires “supplemental” resources.  Effective January 1, 2014, WSMC will become a member of the Marine Preservation Association (MPA), thereby gaining access to Marine Spill Response Corporation’s (MSRC’s) comprehensive spill response resources in the State of Washington. There is no increase to the WSMC fee for adding MSRC to the WSMC Plan.

Vessels may have either MSRC or NRC as their national OSRO and enroll in WSMC.  However, MPA members who enroll in WSMC will receive a credit on their MPA national dues from MPA for a portion of their WSMC fees. Also, WSMC will provide “no cost” coverage in 2014 to any company enrolling a tank vessel or barge that also becomes a member of MPA for access to MSRC on a national basis.
